The Polyfix fracture fixation system is designed for the treatment of displaced fractures of the distal radius with moderate degree of comminution. The Polyfix allows for early, relatively painless, movements of the wrist and the hand after surgery. The reason for this is a strong stable fixation of the fracture after a minimally invasive approach from the lateral side. The fixation is achieved by inserting five pins; two through the distal channels of the Polyfix plate and the styloid process and three through the proximal channels of the Polyfix plate and the proximal fragment of the radius. The pins are crossing each other at fracture site, interlocking the fracture. The Polyfix pins are introduced from the lateral side of the radius, avoiding tendon problems seen with devices placed from the volar or dorsal side. The lateral placement of the pins should lead to less inflammatory reactions and thus to less risk of infection due to reduced mobility of the skin around the pin sites during wrist motion. The Polyfix plate and the pin protection cover weigh only 19 g. The Polyfix plate allows the patient to wear normal clothes. The Polyfix plate permits the penetration and passage of X-rays, why it does not obstruct viewing the fracture in any plane during image intensification or on radiographic examination. All implants and instruments are delivered sterile in a single use package for immediate use. The Polyfix has a 10-year guarantee on the sterility of the package.Basic Information
Key Features
Five pins are crossing and interlocking the fracture, securing a strong axial and rotational stability.
Two 15 mm skin incisions are made on the lateral side of the radius to introduce the pins. A 50 mm skin incision is made when open reduction is required.
Most patients can start to use their wrist and hand immediately after surgery, allowing daily activities and early return to work. The Polyfix avoids ligamentotaxis, retains supination and pronation.Indications

Less risk of pin site infections
