Swemac is a publicly traded company founded in 1985 following a spin-off from Saab Combitech. However Swemac's history dates back to 1968, when the Saab group established a business division in medical technology.

1968 - Saab Aircraft starts a new business area called medical technology
1975 - The Hansson Pin System was designed by the late professor Lars Ingvar Hansson for the treatment of slipped capital femoral epiphyses in children.
1983 - The Hansson Pin System was introduced for femoral neck fractures.
1985 - Saab constitutes Swemac Ltd.
1991 - Henrik Hansson begins working at Swemac Orthopaedics. The first product is the Hansson Pin System, developed by Henrik's father Lars Ingvar Hansson.
1997 - The Hansson Family buys the Swemac division that contains medical implants
2003 - Swemac Aps is established in Denmark
2004 - Swemac AS is established in Norway
2011 - Swemac Orthopaedics ApS and Osmedic ApS merge in Denmark and becomes Swemac Osmedic ApS.
2013 - Swemac Simulation AB is established in Sweden
